Ice boxes and marble counters are city property and insured. building loss about 1900 is insured. Losses at Monroe Dressed Meat Co and S H Heard under $100 each insured. Hermann & Kornmann uninsured. All three pies to close temporarily for new quarters.
From Torreon, June 16, reports say Constitutionalists face severe movement limits as Federal forces cut all railroads. Troop movement toward Zacatecas is blocked, forcing overland transport across arid terrain with scant forage.
A Montana delegation met President Wilson on June 16 to discuss possible Federal troop action to quell the mining disturbances. They did not press for immediate action but plan another meeting tomorrow.
Greek refugees from Asia Minor recount a Turkish assault on Phokia that killed about one hundred Greeks including priests and children. They say armed invaders aided by police looted burned homes and that some bodies were dumped in wells.

A fire at 1 o’clock this morning heavily damaged the T. M. Parker building at Seventh and DeSiard streets. Owned by Blanks Parker, it housed Monroe Dressed Meat Co H. Heard’s butcher stands and Hermann Kornmann fish dealers. Fire department saved the structure but meat and fish supplies were ruined and removed.
Grief over her husband’s death drives Mrs. J O Ford of Mary Lee to drown with her six month old infant in the Sipsee River near her father-in-law’s home. Both bodies recovered later. child’s body not found by noon. Ford had been despondent since her husband’s mill accident death months earlier.
Amendment 10 settles Monroe school matter with near unanimous support. The city will run Monroe’s City Schools. parish board duties end for Monroe, and parish funds fund state public schools under new tax limits. Passage expected in the House and Senate steps likely favorable.
