Lions Club backs community chest on ballot vote
Monroe Lions Club approved a community chest plan by 48 to 1 at a Tuesday meeting in Hotel Frantes to fund charity efforts rather than seek individual campaigns. The civic affairs committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Monroe and West Monroe sponsored the survey of 23 similarly sized cities, which favored chest drives. Other local clubs will vote this month, after which the committee will advise the chamber on final action. Lion L. P. Landry reported his New York-Virginia trip, noting the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Jack Dempsey’s Broadway restaurant, and Beverly Martin performed a song and dance with her mother at the program.
