Baton Rouge June 14. The New Orleans commission form of government bill was withdrawn and will be reintroduced in the Senate next week in a new form by Senator Byrnes removing Orleans parish officers and the need for thirteen constitutional amendments. The Senate also cut the recall petition threshold from 35 to 30 percent, reversing a prior committee stance.
Washington reports Taft says there will be no third candidate and he will be nominated on the first ballot with votes to spare. Friends say he would oppose compromise candidates Cummins or La Follette, favoring Root or Fairbanks for a resolutions chair, while he denies any compromise talks in a telegram.
Baltimore suffragists announce a large parade Thursday evening during Democratic convention week to press for a suffrage plank and signal to delegates. A Women's National Democratic League delegation met officials offering support and seeking seating for a subcommittee at the convention.
Storm swept the area causing considerable damage late yesterday in the worst blow of the season. Wind and debris disrupted homes and roads with reports of downed power lines and damaged property across several blocks. Local crews assess now for recovery and repair.
