De Gaulle and Erhard to Confer Over Differences
President Charles de Gaulle arrives in Bonn for two days of talks with Chancellor Ludwig Erhard under the France West Germany treaty. They aim for common foreign and defense policies though progress seems unlikely. De Gaulle opposes European political union or a stronger European parliament. Erhard seeks a meeting of foreign ministers to form a six nation Common Market political organ. De Gaulle vetoed this last May over grain price issues benefiting French farmers but harming German farmers. With fall elections near, Erhard is unlikely to concede on farm policy and broader integration.
