Husky Bear Felled After Hectic Hunt
A 250 pound black bear chased by crowds and 100 police for seven hours in Baltimore died when a officer shot it through the brain. The bear had been sighted since Memorial Day and earlier in Washington and suburban Maryland. Patrolmen Nelson Aten and Millard E Waddell closed in for the kill.

Generosity Leads To Arrest Of 2 In Winnsboro
In Winnsboro Franklin Parish youths were arrested after a Tuesday break-in at the Five Point Service Station. Items missing included four cans of tobacco, cigarette papers, chewing gum, cigars, and 50 cents in pennies. Police, aided by bloodhounds from Richland Parish, caught the pair after reports they were seen giving away cigars. Arrested were James Burns, 17, of Winnsboro Route 3, and a 15-year-old juvenile, with prior LTI involvement noted. Officers were Pete Waller Travis Bass and Elmer Wiggins of the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Department.

Ban on plastic bag use in state finally enacted
In Baton Rouge the city parish council adopted an ordinance banning plastic bags for dry cleaned garments after a public hearing with no speakers. The measure targets bags over dresses and suits and takes effect immediately while some laundries still use plastic bags for deliveries.

Lottie Woman Killed Crossing Highway 190
Mrs. James Higginbotham 69 of Lottie died after being struck by a car on U S 190 in Lottie. Police identified driver Eddie Anderson 37 of Krotz Springs with no charges filed. She suffered chest injuries and multiple fractures. Funeral arrangements pending. She was a Mississippi native survived by her husband and 10 children.
