Paris reports from battlegrounds indicate the German assault toward Paris is pressed with divisions and tanks in heavy fighting. The line has advanced to Vignemont, six miles from the capital, amid high casualties and relentless trench resistance in a ten month war of attrition.
Moving with steadiness the German attack from Oise to Marne threatens the Allied lines as losses grow. French counter thrusts along the Aronde threaten to blunt the German advance, marking a critical stage in a campaign already menacing on the Somme and Aisne fronts.
London reports that last night British forces carried out an operation east of Amiens pushing their line south of Morlancourt forward about half a mile on a one and a half mile front. The War Office announced that 230 prisoners were captured.
The official war office reports French forces between Montdidier and Noyon retook Mery, with strong French resistance on the left. The Germans pushed near the Hermonde river but French counterattacks restored the line south of Elloy and at St Maur, Seglise, and Vandeli Court as heavy fighting continued on the right.

One of the signing pens for the Arkansas Louisiana highway project has been sent to the Chamber of Commerce. The contract is described as the largest road award, with costs over 38 million dollars. Crews will work in Desha Chicot Drew counties and soon in Ashley and Lincoln counties. The 170 mile road will end at the Louisiana line, with plans to extend via Monroe to Camp Beauregard and the gulf. A statewide Louisiana organizing meeting is set for Monroe on June 19, with Arkansas interests expected to be represented.

The House passes a suffrage measure by 80 to 22 and sends the amendment to the Senate for further action.
The Louisiana lower house passed a constitutional amendment granting women suffrage by an 80 to 22 vote. It now goes to the senate, where leaders predict a proportionate majority to support ratification at the next fall election.
In a regular monthly session the Ouachita Parish Council of Defense meets Friday at 11 a.m. in City Hall. Officials plan discussion of Fourth of July celebration options within the parish and seek broad citizen participation including foreign birth residents. The council will also back the war-savings drive.
Trial of Sig Ilaas and Sons versus Mrs Pauline R Bernhardt et al began in district court over a verbal seven year lease on the DeSiard and North Second building now occupied by Ilaas. At noon recess Sir Haas testified and Morris Haas followed. Witnesses said the defendants leased the property or planned to to the organizers of the Citizens National Bank.
District Judge Ben C. Dawkins, visiting Baton Rouge, heard a proposed bill in the legislature requiring judges to resign when running for any office not to succeed themselves. A Shreveport attorney is said to have carried the measure to the capital. As yet the bill has not been formally introduced.
Baton Rouge backing reportedly influenced opposition to a measure that would create a new supreme court district excluding Jackson Lincoln and Union parishes. Judge Dawkins of Monroe and Judge J H Reynolds of Aresdia are named in discussions to stay in the race. A plan to leave districts as they are and elect two additional associate justices is under consideration. District Attorney Odom of Lastroup may run if Dawkins is elected to the higher post.
