U S Loses Market For Soybean Oil In Iran
Washington AP The Agriculture Department reports the United States is losing a major market for vegetable oil especially soybean oil in Iran due to shifts in world production and price. In 1966 Iran bought about 95 percent of its oil imports from the U S now soybean oil accounted for less than 12 percent and sun flower seed oil from the Soviet bloc has grown to about 60 percent of imports. The department notes possible U S gains through credit sales and higher quality oil, with competition from sunflower seed oil at $200 to $240 per ton and bloc credits unavailable to Iran.
