Philadelphia Faces Surplus Rooms For June 21 Republican Convention
Philadelphia officials report an embarrassing surplus of nearly 5,000 rooms for the June 21 Republican national convention after initially fearing a shortage. An auxiliary housing committee has secured about 10,000 rooms, many in private homes, with 18,000 expected attendees. The problem now is tickets and turnout, while the GOP plans about $5,000 daily for band entertainment led by Meyer Davis to feature state anthems and candidate tunes.
