A late bidding notice urges candidates and the public to submit subscriptions before ten o clock tonight. Mail entries postmarked by June 10th are counted, allowing outside candidates to participate up to the last minute and be treated on par with city candidates.
The News-Star contest urges candidates to turn in five six month subscriptions by ten o'clock tonight. The clubbing offer grants an extra vote for three hundred thousand votes and runs ten days to June 10. Five year subs may count as two clubs and two year subs as four.
The House appears set to force a vote on the prohibition amendment after Majority Leader Underwood signaled a test vote. The rules committee met to hear two advocates of the amendment before reporting a rule, with the measure banning sale and importation of intoxicating liquors in the United States and territories.
Staff correspondent for The Daily States and Shreveport Times at Baton Rouge and Edward E Moise assistant secretary to the Governor were tried in City Court before Judge Fred Odom on fighting and disturbing the peace arising from a lobby altercation at the Istrouma Hotel. Rudolph Ramelli testified Moise insulted Harris over an article and grabbed Harris before Harris struck Moise, leaving Moise’s shoes and the room in disarray. Moise questioned Ramelli to challenge Harris's statement.
Charles Ray, a Black prisoner, freed himself from ankle shackles at St. Francis Sanitarium after being wounded by a fe lon prisoner. He was re arrest ed while trying to board an Iron Mountain freight at Wham. Taken to Collinston then Monroe and jailed without privileges. Fannie Davis, alleged to have supplied the file, is jailed.
The canal tolls repeal debate nears its end as a vote is anticipated tonight before adjournment. Administration leaders say repeal will pass with a safe majority.
In Chatham New Brunswick last Friday a storm wrecked fishing smacks with uncertain casualties. A morning report claimed about one hundred twenty five deaths amid conflicting figures from the coast guard and local observers.
A Vienna dispatch said the American minister to Greece offered good offices to European powers to aid peace in Albania where Moslems resist the new king and fight continues. London reported the State Department had issued no instructions to offer such mediation.
London report says public outrage over militant suffragettes grows as government plans indemnity legislation for prison authorities to prevent deaths from hunger strikes. Clergymen interviewed by the Evening Standard largely back the proposal. Father Bernard Vaughan voices support for allowing deaths.
Chicago reports former Vice President Adlai Stevenson critically ill in a local hospital. Stevenson served under Grover Cleveland and pursued an active political career.
Baton Rouge news brief reports Thos. O. Harris, managing editor of the Shreveport Times, in a legislative roster item dated June 9. The note frames Harris as a newspaper man trimming a secretary amid ongoing statehouse coverage.
In a tense session the McClanahan capital removal bill failed final passage as Baton Rouge votes rallied to 60 against Alexandria's 45. Representative McClanahan blamed Gov. Hall for interference while Luther E. Hall drew sharp praise from administration supporters. The Rhinehardt racing bill faced indefinite postponement in a 55 to 50 vote.
Senator Leon R. Smith of Caddo introduced a bill to require drawing 16 percent of talesmen when juries are drawn and allow summons of commissioners for special venires. The measure shifts summons from sheriffs and stems from Shreveport public meetings after the Littles acquittal. Smith also receives congratulations on the Shreveport rate case termination.
Albert Britton a wealthy Black resident near Calhoun was struck five times by an unknown shooter. A flesh wound on the left side. Britton, who reported to the grand jury after two weeks, had previously sworn a warrant against Rev. Julius M. Thomas. Witnesses, white and Black, have been summoned as the case heads to a thorough grand jury investigation.
The civil marriage of Miss Belle Willard, daughter of the American ambassador to Spain, and Kermit Roosevelt, son of ex-President Theodore Roosevelt, was performed in Madrid this morning.
Washington reports a morning conference between Mr. Bryan and the President on the Mexican situation. Afterward Bryan declined to comment on the steamer Antilla, which is expected to arrive at Tampico today with arms for the Constitutionalists.
The Pierce Oil corporation of Virginia was denied the right to carry on business in Texas by the Texas State Supreme Court. The mandamus action to force the Secretary of State to issue the permit was denied. Austin, June 0.
Baton Rouge reports indicate the governor plans to remove the state bank examiner following a Supreme Court decision deemed technical. An act to empower removal is being drafted for Legislature attention, with executive sessions sought on the Sims appointment.
The article notes banking and political friends of Mr Young felt gratified by his victory after the news arrived yesterday. Several telegrams of congratulations were sent to Mr Young as the mood shifted toward endorsement of the executive session idea.
The Arkansas Louisiana and Gauff railway sale to satisfy a mortgage held by Colorado Title and Trust Company was postponed a second time as no bids were offered. Judge A A Gunby, appointed by the U S court as special master, announced the postponement before the Federal building at noon because no bidder had deposited the required guarantee. The next course of action was not announced.
One of the biggest railroad deals in years will move Missouri Pacific to gain use of Texas and Pacific tracks from Ferriday to New Orleans for freight and passenger service. It also gains trackage from Addis to Alexandria and becomes joint owner of the New Orleans Terminals, with Missouri Pacific to pay fixed charges and its share of operating and maintenance costs.

Opponents circulate a hand bill urging the people to prevent his flight and calling for justice.
Niagara Falls June 10 Mediation between American delegates and Mexican representatives over Huerta naming a provisional president reaches a stalemate. Americans refuse to accept a transmission that would recognize Huerta. mediators insist on a constitutionally defined foreign minister. A possible compromise tunes include reappointing Peter Laseurain to cabinet and elevating him to provisional president if a mutually agreed foreign minister is named.
Statewide primaries planned in Minnesota on June 14 will determine party nominees across the state. Election officials urge voters to verify registration and polling locations ahead of the vote.
