As 1 090 delegates prepare for the Democratic national convention in Baltimore the convention hall is guarded and acoustics tested so a speaker barely raises voice can be heard throughout. Urey Woodson's absence delays meetings while Col John S Martin arrives to open headquarters amid ticket rushes and staff positioning.
Urey Woodson secretary of the Democratic convention arrives in New York for a conference with Chairman Norman E. Mack on final Baltimore arrangements. He notes the hall seats 15 000 and demand for admission is high amid contests over Philippine Islands District of Columbia and Porto Rico delegates.

Six members of J. G. Moore family and two neighboring young women were killed in the Moore residence in Willisea Iowa during the night. The crime remains unsolved with no suspects or motive reported. The dead include Moore and his wife, three sons, a daughter, Edith Spillinger and Blanche Spillinger.
