Ex Kaiser's Funeral Amid Exile at Doorn
Wilhelm II was laid to rest at Huize Doorn in a private ceremony without a local pastor’s eulogy. An Austrian official saluted on behalf of Hitler. Nazi wreaths adorned the service though no Nazi flag flew. Attendees included Mackensen, Bulgarian and Hungarian diplomats, and royal family members. Forty five of Washington's trees at Mount Vernon remain.

Work Relief Fund Approved by Committee
The committee approved a reduced work relief plan comparing 1942 and 1941 bills. It cut appropriations from 1.35 billion to 875 million and employment estimates from 1.7 million to 941 thousand, streamlining the program to counteract the impression that defense spending would absorb all unemployed. Hunter testified that unemployment could run 5.5 to 7.5 million in the year starting July, despite rising output and a growing labor force.
