Monroe Kiwanis club hosted its weekly meeting at Camp Ki-Ro-Li where Boy Scouts are encamped. Indian performers entertained, Scoutmaster R H Murdough of troop 55 spoke, and a museum tour followed along with a conservation lecture by Estelle Cottman. Bob Rice promoted a Wear Cotton Movement with support from Gulfport and eastern suit makers.

Members of Lott Goins Post No 4 colored veterans were addressed by J A McClain vice commander of Barkdull Faulk post and C A Hunt commander of Rodney J Hobbs post Veterans of Foreign Wars with David I Garrett district attorney. The winning fundraising team for a delegate to the national American Legion convention in San Diego will be announced Friday. Dr A M McMichael Negro physician spoke at the close and a reception followed at headquarters in the Miller Roy building.

Oua chita parish junior college retains full faculty for year
C. C. Calvert announced the entire faculty will be retained for the coming year. Second year college work will be offered in all departments and new subjects added to the curricula. The college conservatory of music will expand with new courses. Firefighters extinguished a shed blaze at 106 Seventh, responding at 7 03 and returning at 7 09 p.m.

Budget approved for eight months by local Red Cross
The local Red Cross chapter adopted an eight month tentative budget with last year's relief figure near $6,000 excluding flood aid. The group plans to send a representative to a first aid and life saving institute in Camp Carolina June 15 25. They will buy a $25 canning outfit for vegetables and accept a cabbage donation from Guy P Stubbs to make sauerkraut. The emergency truck will be abandoned and a food canteen prepared for the American Legion truck.

Aerial fire alarm near home saves occupants in Ga
Air Mail Pilot G E Thomas flew over his East Point home and spotted a blazing fire. He nosed his plane into a dive and flashed over the blaze to wake residents, then continued his mail route. He later learned a neighbor’s house was on fire. Sheriff Milton Coverdale was in Baton Rouge today and expected back tonight.
