A coroner's jury in Jonesboro Arkansas ruled death by own action for 73 year old Charles Ellis who swallowed carbolic acid and wrapped a chloroform soaked towel about his head. Ellis left a note saying he was without funds and tired of living.

United Press dispatches report two deadly tunnel blasts. In Detroit the explosion 200 feet below the Detroit river killed six and wounded ten, eighteen men buried, two escaped unhurt. In Sunol California natural gas caused the Alameda tunnel blast killing seven instantly and fatally injuring another, with one hospitalized.

Four men bound and gagged a woman and three men at Krause Mortgage and Bond Co. on 1700 West Chicago Avenue. They escaped with between $6,000 and $7,800 from the firm’s safe. No injuries reported. Police seek suspects.

New Gas Well Brought In At Concordia Parish

Escapes Death as Shot Riddle Haunts Horton Car
J A Horton a country school teacher formerly of Monroe faced charges of breaking and entering and shooting with intent to kill in Downsville related to an ambush on him. Horton reported the incident to Sheriff Pat Murphy after he walked into the Farmerville sheriff's office. His automobile was riddled with buckshot last night.
