Scientists say vaccine deadlines cannot govern polio program
Surgeon General Leonard A Scheele warned that vaccines cannot meet fixed dates and manufacturing takes about 90 days. He noted safety over speed and that six licensed producers must adjust procedures under new standards. He said not enough vaccine will be ready to immunize all children this summer, and that two doses for all first and second graders are planned before August peak.
