Meridian Mississippi June 8 The 250 horsepower boiler of the Meridian Light and Railway Co exploded this morning wrecking the power house with an estimated loss of twenty five thousand dollars. A negro named John Ruffin was seriously crushed. Andy Cook injured. John Murrell white was scalded. Streetcar service suspended and the electric plant out of commission. Also report: Senate Judiciary Committee votes to begin work on the Clayton Omnibus Anti trust bill.
J T Austin president of the Monroe Gun Club won the state championship breaking 98 of 100 targets and receiving a gold medal and first interstate trophy. Other top finishers included Morgan George Monroe H O Warren Ruston R W Dodd Shreveport and more with Ben Schwartz leading the 200 target event. Visitors praised Monroe Gun Club and many spent time of anglers on a river trip.
Washington reports Second Lieutenant F. H. Houston shot and killed a drunken Mexican at Vera Cruz who had stabbed two unarmed police officers and attacked an officer with a knife before the lieutenant aided local police.

E L Simpson of Longview Texas died at St Francis Sanitarium after injuries from a shallow water dive at the natatorium two weeks earlier. Doctors found a fractured vertebra and spinal injury during surgery intended to save his life. He was survived by his wife and brother. burial will be in Longview.
Quachita Tribe No. 19, Improed Order of Red Men, plans a patriotic Fourth of July celebration in Monroe at Forsythe Park. A large parade through the streets will be followed by a fireworks display in front of the grand stand. The event aims to surpass a prior successful observance.
