In New Orleans on June 7 the Young Men's Business Club urged open hearings on bills raising taxes or salaries for state officials. Members argued action by them would be futile and decried a biased Baton Rouge Legislature. Charles Zatarin cited a Washington figure who railroads bills, while Harry Scales blamed unchecked taxation spending.
Senator Wheeler of Montana urged in the senate that legislation be enacted to make short selling and participation in stock market pools a crime. He said the aim is to end future abuses and prevent pools from operating, not to jail individuals, and cited the New York market as an example.

The U S gunboat Oahu fired on Chinese soldiers raiding two British steamers Wanliu and Kiawo on the upper Yangtze near Chungking. The Wanliu, carrying 110000 dollars in cash, ran aground. the Kiawo recovered the money and passengers while the Oahu kept guard. Many casualties reported among the Chinese troops.
