Bill would create Louisiana department of art and culture
Sen. W D Brown forced the bill back to the calendar after an amendment to exclude CODOFIL from consolidation. The measure would establish a Department of Art Historical and Cultural Affairs by July 1 1975 to absorb multiple boards and museums while preserving CODOFIL as an independent agency. Brown cited budget uncertainties in predicting savings.

State Supreme Court Upholds Sales and Use Taxes
The Louisiana Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by Morris Jacobs, James Ware, and W G Latimer, upholding the validity of sales and use taxes in Baton Rouge, Baker, and East Baton Rouge Parish. The ruling focused on timing, not the taxes’ constitutionality, since the appeal was filed after the 30 day limit. The plaintiffs argued discriminatory impact, but the court did not rule on merits.

Volpe Doubts Concorde SST Will Fly Over U.S.
Transportation Secretary John Volpe said the British French Concorde is too noisy and dirty to fly over the United States or land at coastal cities. He noted the FAA will not approve entry until noise and pollution standards are met and the plane passes airworthiness testing. Volpe doubted SSTs would cross the United States and suggested subsonic speed limits near shore may be required for coastal landings.
