Reds Sharply Hike Attacks In Viet War
In the last 24 hours Viet Cong rockets and mortars hit more than 100 allied bases and towns in South Vietnam. U.S. reports list at least 464 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese killed in ground fighting and at least 40 Americans killed with more than 100 wounded. Civilians suffered 45 wounded with three dead. Major targets included Bien Hoa base and U.S. divisions near Saigon. The incident count noted 82 enemy-initiated actions against government and civilian sites. The shelling coincides with talks between Nixon and Thieu at Midway Island.

Tokyo AP reports Red China charging Soviet troops fired across the Manchurian border and sent hundreds of armored vehicles into Sinkiang Province in incidents described as incessant. Monroe man cited for quick action to avert crash
Robert K. Semmes III, a 21 year old Monroe resident, was cited by New York police after steering his tanker truck away from three stopped cars to avoid collision near Utica. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at Faxton Hospital before being released. Semmes and L C Wright, both Ford Bacon Davis workers, helped contain a spill of liquid rubber and gasoline after the wreck. Wright credits Semmes with saving lives while Semmes, a Navy veteran, had recently joined the firm.

New Post Office Facility Announced for West Monroe
Fifth District Congressman Otto E. Passman announced a new one half million dollar post office facility for West Monroe after a news conference in Monroe. The project includes 95 000 square feet of space with 20 000 for building use 35 000 for parking and 40 000 for patron parking. City of West Monroe provides 15 000 square feet of nearby land and a street closing to enable construction. The facility will be leased under the Post Office Department program and bids will be invited soon with plans available for interested bidders.
