Farmer Killed North of Monroe in Highway Accident
A 47 year old Oak Grove farmer Sam Williams was killed when a 1946 Ford driven by P F C Franklin D Smith crossed the highway shortly after 6 am on U S 165 ten miles north of Monroe. Smith faced negligent homicide charges and is out on $1 000 bond awaiting a 2 pm inquest. Williams left six children.

Grace Church Signs Contract for New Educational Building

Survivors Rescued As Plane Downed Off Atlantic
Thirty seven survivors were rescued by the destroyer USS Saufley after a twin engine plane ditched in the Atlantic off Florida. A merchant ship sighted five bodies. 23 remained missing. All survivors were reported in good condition though none wore life jackets. The crowd of migrant workers from Puerto Rico were en route to the United States when the motor failed.
