Washington reports America mobilizes for war with ten million men registered and orderly nationwide turnout. Crowder’s team coordinates, noting smooth operation, full cooperation from state and local officials, and no disturbances as the early returns indicate strong compliance.
Louisiana registration for the selective draft drew about 171 60 men, with reports from New Orleans and statewide precincts indicating heavy participation. Early tallies from 1 precincts in New Orleans brought 2 899 registrants in sparsely populated areas.
Mayor Behrman extended registration hours after Governor Pleasant urged extended lines. Varying turnout saw long queues with many negroes waiting until the last minute. Some wards reported incomplete registration as of midnight while Baton Rouge supplied 30 000 cards to ease the rush.
Indications Tuesday night put Louisiana total registration near 200000 versus the war department’s 171000 forecast. Adjutant general’s report notes no arrests in New Orleans. About 200 whites and negroes were detained at rail stations but agreed to register after rules were explained. Negro registration statewide was heavier than expected with few exemptions claimed.

Her grandfather long served as flag bearer of John Buford Post 243 and after his death she was unanimously elected flag bearer and now leads the post in parade duties.
New Orleans reports no special election to fill the vacancy created by Justice A. D. Land's death. Under Act 127 of 1904 the supreme court would appoint a court of appeals judge from a different district until the next regular congressional election. Judge Charles V. Porter of Natchitoches is favored for interim appointment. North Louisiana hope to supply the ad interim choice.
Major Bewell recruiting the Seventh Regiment of Reserve Engineers for France seeks at least ten men as first sergeants or sergeant majors with payer work experience in the regular army. Interested men should write to Major J R Slattery Corps of Engineers Vicksburg Miss at once.
A political event notes Senator Kern appearing tonight carrying a personal message from President Wilson and Vice President. The item highlights a high profile speaker and a direct line to national leadership.
The Chicago male quartet, Shriners from Medina Temple of Chicago, will present a forty five minute musical program before Senator Kern speaks. The event features an official Shriners organization gathering in Chicago.
Tonight at 8 music to lift the heart by the Chicago Male Quartet followed by an 8 45 address by Senator John W Kern of Indiana. Thursday features Youth's Chautauqua at 9 30 directed by Miss Johnson and a 3 00 high class musical by the Schroedter Quintet with a 3 45 address by Dr Robert P Shepherd of Chicago.
Senator John W Kern of Indiana replaces Vice President Marshall on the Lincoln Chautauqua circuit delivering an address on National and International Affairs. He brings a message from Wilson and Marshall and will recount the war story from Europe to Washington. The Chicago Male Quartet opens the program with forty five minutes of entertainment.
Tornadoes today killed fourteen persons and injured fifty as damage spread across Missouri and Kansas. Dispatches report five dead at Centralia, three near Richmond, three likely fatally injured in Kansas, plus additional deaths at Elmont Lawrence and Clinton.
Washington June 6 veterans and visitors attend the twenty seventh reunion of the Confederate Veterans as President Wilson declares the country moves toward liberty mankind. The crowd fills the great hall and the rebel yell echoes as Confederate youths sing Civil War tunes. The flag display and patriotic parade mark the reunion atmosphere. Springfield Missouri June 6 six people are arrested in a kidnap plot tied to Lloyd Keets and a broader scheme to abduct children. Police expect the 14 month old Lloyd Keets to be returned soon and one suspect confesses to plans against other children.
The General Synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America met in annual session in Sterling Kansas on June 6. High officers leading ministers and missionaries attended with prominent laymen from across the country.
William J. Bryan delivered the commencement address at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Chancellor Frank Strong presided as one of the university’s largest graduating classes to receive diplomas.
June 6 Provost Marshal General Crowder said registrars have until noon to report and no complete registrations are expected before tonight. He said laws allow those who failed to register yesterday to register today. Wisconsin reports about 218,706 registrations and New Jersey over 261,000.

British forces mount naval and aerial raids on Ostend damaging the German docks and workshops. French reports say German forces repulsed in Aisne. British offensive near Lens and the Scarpe area continues with gains on Greenland Hill. A German submarine is reported sunk by an American steamer after a long running fight. Riots reported in Stockholm with guarded parliament.
The German official statement says British forces penetrated the Roeux railway station area and fought to control a small trench section. It also notes German aircraft dropped bomb payloads on Sheerness, England, with good hits observed.
Washington reports Belgium will dispatch a mission to the United States headed by Baron Moncheur the ex minister here. The group is expected to arrive within three weeks. The report notes electricity is effectively used to abate chemical fumes from metal refineries and to reduce smoke coal dust and fog.
In a Dallas Texas interview Secretary McAdoo urges continuous Liberty Loan subscriptions. He condemns any halt after cities reach tentative quotas and calls on Louisiana to stop delaying and join the oversubscribed effort. Deputy Governor J W Hoopes quotes the urgency.
On the eve of the first drive for recruits among British residents of the United States the British recruiting commission, under Brigadier General W. A. White, was visited by scores of loyal Englishmen seeking information. First recruits will be accepted tomorrow morning and officials expect a large turnout on opening day.
