House Rejects Bill To Raise Solons' Benefit
Rep Vail Delony's retirement benefit bill for legislators failed 49 to 43 in the House on Tuesday. Delony later moved to reconsider, arguing the bill would raise state retirement contributions from 1 to 2 percent while lawmakers pay eight percent versus five percent for state workers. Opponents warned it would nearly double benefits, with votes showing a split on personal stakes and political optics. Northeast Louisiana members voting for included Crane Delany Floyd Lancaster Richmond Steen Wymack, against I J Allen Downes Gibbs John McCormack Napper P K Smith, not voting Fields Seaman.
