Monroe based A and A member Goodlett attended the national Rivers and Harbors Congress in Washington as the official representative of the Tensas Basin Levee Board. The convention highlighted projects including the New Orleans tidewater channel and the Mississippi Valley Broad Channel.

March 11, 1953, Monahan was beaten to death with a pistol while reading The Purple Pony Murders. Baxter Shorter, 44, Santo associate, implicated Santo, Perkins and Mrs. Graham before vanishing from his home. Police fear he was killed to silence him. John True, a Santo mobster, testified that Mrs. Graham struck Monahan with a gun as the attack occurred.
