Tests led by Frank A. Lee at the New York State Experiment Station found peas and snap beans frozen at home as flavorful and nutritious as rapid commercial freezing. Home methods took up to eight hours, but judges noted no taste or vitamin differences after cooking. speed in handling and proper spacing inside larger freezers remain crucial.
Ouachita Valley Training Union Associational meeting will be held at the First Baptist Church in Monroe Friday night June 4 at 7 45. Dr A C Lawton director of the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation will be principal speaker. A poster contest on alcohol and its effects on the human body and brain is sponsored with $15 in awards. Special music by Sterlington Baptist Church choir directed by Lee B Stall. J D Carroll is director and Mrs Forest Seaman secretary. Everyone invited to hear Dr Lawton.
The act of congress August 1 1947 provides gold star lapel buttons to widows and next of kin of armed forces members who died in World War II between December 7 1941 and July 25 1947. Applications go to the adjutant general Washington DC with forms from army or air force installations or veterans groups. Buttons feature a gold star on a purple background with gold laurel leaves and an inscription on the reverse. A 1948 ceremony at Camp Leroy Johnson in New Orleans awarded buttons to Sgt Leroy Johnson relatives, with a bronze plaque honoring him.
