Diploma Parade Marks Bastrop Highs Record Class
Bastrop High School closed its term with a large 33 member graduating class the largest to date. Judge Percy Sandel gave the commencement address as Superintendent Shaw and Principal J A Garrett spoke on education. Valedictorian W C Barham and salutatorian Katherine Brooks led the class which included Vivian Herp Nadia Allen Hugh Mae Wolff Vertie Barham Louis Ricklex Katherine Brooks Ena Calhoun Fred Carpenter and others. Evans Turpin served as president of the senior class with Gee Cox as vice president and Ma Franklin as secretary treasurer.

End of West Monroe concentration camp marks closure
With breakfast served this morning the West Monroe camp ended its operation. One diphtheria case occurred with no deaths, and 105 white residents were registered on closure. Dismantling proceeds next week as drainage ditches are leveled and water systems removed.
