Israel Draftees in Jewish Army Share Perks and Routines
A NEA report from Tel Aviv describes how draftees in the Jewish army face the same forms and lines as American conscripts yet enjoy a brisk four hour reception, equal pay for officers and men, and broad allowances. Officers and enlisted men share meals, uniforms, and even dining in the same facilities, with little distinction in daily life. The army emphasizes a buddy system over formal salutes, and the lack of strict disciplinary separation between ranks.
