Abbeville Louisiana July MP State Sen Dudley LeBlanc veteran patent medicine maker says he will retire from active politics until the current business strain eases. He backed A O Rappelet in a bid for second public service district commissioner and Wade Martin Sr won renomination. Gov Earl Long indicated he would oppose LeBlanc as a delegate ex officio to a constitutional convention. LeBlanc emphasizes long public service and Democratic allegiance in his statement.
President Truman nominated Harvey L. Carey of Shreveport to be U S attorney for the western district of Louisiana. Carey succeeds Malcolm E. LaFargue, resigning as clerk of the Mississippi house. he is a WWII Navy veteran, Tulane Law graduate, and husband of Katie Drew with three children.

In Goodwill community Oak Grove La two funerals were held at 2 p m for Otis Sims 27 and his 3 month old son Otis Sims Jr killed when their car collided with a truck on highway 11. The truck driver George Push of Goodwill was jailed for negligent homicide. Mrs Sims and son Douglas 2 were injured and hospitalized with facial lacerations arm fractures and shock.
President Truman asked Congress for an additional 4 billion dollars to fund military aid to anti Communist nations. House leaders from both parties agreed to expedite action, with a quick path to the floor through the appropriations committee. The move follows a White House meeting and comes as Congress lifts manpower ceilings to allow about 600,000 more military personnel.
Brussels reports Premier Duvieusart says King Leopold offered to temporarily delegate royal powers to Crown Prince Baudouin if the Socialists withdraw political and economic demands. The move followed meetings at Laeken Palace with Duvieusart and Socialist leader Max Buset amid threats of civil war and deadly clashes in Liege.
Tank equipped elements of the U S second infantry division landed at a south Korean port today fresh and ready for the fight against the north Korean Communist invaders. The new troops were the first to arrive in Korea direct from the United States and include men from Texas California Georgia New York Indiana Oklahoma Vermont Illinois and other states. World War II veterans among the arrivals faced imminent entry into battle calmly as unloading continued through the night under dockside lights and a pale moon.
Washington July 31 Senate judiciary committee approved a bill to impose the death penalty on spies for two years. It would replace the current maximum of 30 years for peacetime espionage and would expire unless renewed by Congress. The measure, introduced by Senator Eastland, moves to the Senate for action.

Truman had urged Chiang to refrain from island attacks.
U S Eighth Army in Korea reports the American Fifth Air Force has destroyed 302 North Korean tanks and damaged 240 since June 25. Maj Gen Earle Partridge cites 6 388 sorties in five weeks with 44 enemy aircraft destroyed and 11 damaged, while air and ground losses are listed at 43 planes.
A truck slid into a twenty foot ditch ten miles southeast of here injuring two people, one later at Charity hospital. Another crash on U S 80 near West Monroe injures 31 year old Mrs M L Brady, facial lacerations and head wound, treated at St Francis Sanitarium. condition not serious. The driver of the first truck not identified and W C Chitty of Louisiana Machinery Co. listed at Charity hospital in uncertain condition.
New advance elements of U S troops and armor arrived at a southern Korean port direct from the United States. They brought their own tanks and equipment and walked ashore without incident. The reinforcements aim to bolster ground troops facing renewed North Korean blows. Correspondents noted the hopeful sight as troops landed.
