Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Shertok urged the state council that boundaries set by the United Nations are no longer practical and Israel must gain more land by expansion. In Violet Louisiana a material witness, Mrs Joseph Sartalamacchia, 21, was freed on 10000 bond. Her husband and his 15 year old brother Charles are charged with murder in the slaying of six year old Fualdes Boo Landry Jr whose body was found Friday battered by a heavy metal instrument. Also held as witnesses are Mr and Mrs Anthony Sartalamacchia the boy's grandparents. The jailer reports the wife refused food for a second day while the men are held. Charges were filed after a six day investigation.
Major General Leon W. Johnson to command two B 29 wings in Europe as the air division backbone under Lt General Curtis E. Lemay. Johnson, veteran of the 8th and 15th Air Forces, will lead a unit structure defined as two or more wings, with full maintenance and service organizations. He departs for England Sunday.
Francis Laverne Vines a 16 year old West Monroe youth charged with murder for killing farmer B F Shepperd March 7 was found sane by psychiatrists at East Louisiana State Hospital. He will return to Ouachita parish jail and be tried in district court this fall. his insanity plea earlier delayed proceedings.
In a postwar curtain raiser, thirteen Farben plant directors were sentenced for war crimes. The proceedings highlight the ongoing reckoning with industrial complicity.
Washington July 30. Republicans sit on the sidelines as Dixie Democrats widen the filibuster against the anti poll tax bill into a second day. GOP aims to prove President Truman was wrong about cloture. plan to force a vote by schedule while treating the debate as a procedural battle. Senator Vandenberg faces ruling on cloture. Taft predicts the talk will be prolonged with little chance of a vote on merits.
Thirteen I G Farben directors were found guilty of war crimes in Meranburg Germany and sentenced to 18 months to eight years. Judge Hebert dissented arguing more defendants deserved conviction for slave labor mistreatment. Cerl Krauch received six years for misuse of slave labor.
Dr Willis J Potts renowned for blue baby operations appeals for his son Robert Eugene Potts to return home. Robert, 21, disappeared June 2 after leaving Rochester to New York City and California. Potts says ongoing search, notes he delayed gall bladder surgery to be with family, and adds Rosie family details.
Brookhaven national laboratory in Upton N Y expects its first postwar atomic plant to begin generating about 2500 kilowatts by December. The cube shaped pile uses graphite cores and uranium rods with a 300 foot stack to vent and cool air turning radioactive, as a prototype for peaceful power.
In the coroner’s inquest into R. McManemin’s death, jurors heard that several partygoers in J. Bernhardt’s auto had drinks, but Miss Ann Menefee testified she had not drunk. Other witnesses backed her account that she joined the group late and did not go to the earlier venue.
