Daylight Robbery Arrest In Ouachita Parish
J. D. Johnson, 21, of the Natchitoches road, was jailed by the sheriff’s office in Ouachita Parish on a breaking and entering charge. He is accused of robbing Sam Adams’s home near the gravel pit west of West Monroe and taking a .22 caliber rifle.

Legion Officers to Be Installed Monday August 9
The L. B. Faulk post No. 13 American Legion posts the installation of new officers has been moved to Monday August 9 from the originally planned August 2. New officers include C. E. Freak corn taken from Causey farm
A. M. Marx visiting C. S. Causey plantation on the Winnsboro road found a stalk bearing one large cob and ten small ones under a single husk. He brought the unusual corn to the News-Star and Morning World offices on Friday. Federal land grants to aid states in founding agricultural colleges began in 1862.

Missouri Pacific Wins Truck Operation Permit in Louisiana
The Louisiana public service commission granted Missouri Pacific railroad the right to operate trucks between points in the state on its line after a Thursday hearing in Baton Rouge. Waring and McClary spoke for the railroad, with Hudson representing the road. Waring said deliveries could be expedited from 24 to 48 hours.

Deaths Wagoner Rites and Buttita Funeral Notices
The funeral of Mrs. R. D. Wagoner 77 died at home in ward nine near Cypress was held at Mount Olive church with Rev. C. B. Gates and interment in a nearby cemetery. Pallbearers were B. H. Crawford D. S. Owens M. A. Baugh J. W. Allen D. F E Owens and J. R. Murphy. Mrs. Wagoner survived by two sons five daughters 53 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren. The funeral of Thomas Buttita 54 groceryman who died after a short illness at 618 North Fifth street was held at home then at St Matthew's Catholic church with interment in the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Airoldi Frank Varino Joseph Varino Joseph Spatafora J Sampognaro and V. J. Cascio. Buttita born October 4 1883 in Palermo Italy came to America in youth and for 21 years resided in Monroe. He is survived by his wife his mother in Italy ten sons and daughters three brothers and three sisters.

Plane to aid Alabama fishing rodeo opens August
Albert Gill, president of the rodeo association, says a chartered plane will fly over Mobile Bay and nearby waters during the August 9 to 11 event to locate fish schools and guide anglers. The aircraft will also spot devil fish and provide airmail service between rodeo headquarters and the mainland.

The Monroe Typographical union will hold its third annual picnic at Bernstein's country place this Sunday.
