Fontenot to Leave Job and Enter Army Next Week

Rufus W. Fontenot, Louisiana state revenue collector for over three years, will report next week for a five week Camp Custer Michigan training course with a major commission. He plans to stay at his state post through this week before leaving from New Orleans. Governor Sam Jones has not named a temporary replacement yet.

Post Exchange Opens Fourth Branch at Selman Field Hospital

Capt. Darwin Fenner announces the new Post Exchange branch in building 1127 on Central Avenue next to the Altitude Training unit. The hospital area unit serves patients and hospital personnel only with two sections for refreshments and for drugs, tobacco, candy, magazines, and other articles.

Aviation Cadet David H. Rust completes Basic Flying at Courtland Alabama and transfers to Advanced Flying at Craig Field Selma for final pilot training. Lieutenant Oliver Moore is commissioned in the U S Marine Corps and heads to Quantico. Private Alden T. Shotwell Jr joins Field Artillery Training at Fort Sill while Lonnie Murphy reports to Fort Sill. Raymond Thompson earns wings and second lieutenant at Napier Field and becomes instructor at Greenville Miss. He studied at Ouachita Parish High and George Washington University before enlisting in 1942.

Unusually Young Instructor Assigned at Greenville Base

A young instructor at the Greenville Mississippi basic training center is noted this week. Private Ray Porter of Start Louisiana, a 1942 Start High School graduate, is a prisoner of war in Germany, with a card mailed March 26. Lieut William Adams of Mississippi, in the Tenth Air Force bomber unit, is praised by General Bissell for outstanding duty. Adams, who joined the service in 1941, earned his wings in Alabama and is married with a Florida wife.

Private Jerry Black Leads A M Class With 94 Grade

The Post Airplane Mechanics school graduates 15 students after a six week course led by Private Jerry K. Black of the 730th Navigational Training Squadron with a 94 percent grade.
