Committee Slams Nixon on Public Works Funds

The House Appropriations Committee accused the Nixon administration of using an unconstitutional item veto in handling last year’s public works money. The $4.57 billion 1972 bill funds public works power and water development and the Atomic Energy Commission, with Northeast Louisiana projects listed including Monroe floodwall, Ouachita River levees, and Boeuf and Black Rivers work.

Charles H. Fulson Dies at 76 in Monroe

Charles Henry Fulson 76 of 416 Speed St Monroe died Sunday night at St Francis Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home with Rev W Bradley Trimble officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. He was a World War I veteran and retired Union Oil of Mill employee. Survivors include widow Cornelia Sue Fulson of Monroe a son B O Danny Fulson of Hurst Tex a daughter Mrs Edward Ann Venable of Abilene Tex four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Record heat in Needles as 112 degrees tops Sunday

Monroe postal costs rise by 2.1 million dollars this year

The Monroe area is projected to spend 2.122 million on postal services this year up from 1.754 million, as new U S Postal Service rates boost costs by about 21 percent.
