Reports from Tokyo quote a Manchuria telegraph that Chinese troops fired on five Soviet planes over a border town at dawn. Disturbances later quieted as officials in London awaited word on China talks. Moscow and Beijing traded accusations amid tensions in the Manchurian frontier.
A group including Mr and Mrs Davee Von E tm Mr and Mrs Jommy Armour and Al Watrous traveled by plane from De toit to attend the Canadian Open golf event aboard L P Fisher's twelve passenger craft.
Chicago reports that John Marsh will serve 112 days in the house of correction after slapping his 65-year-old mother. Judge Francis Allegretti rejected sympathy for the son, noting the offense and his drinking problem. The mother asked for leniency but the judge insisted on punishment.
A unidentified man was found dead in a freight car at the Twenty-seventh avenue crossing in Meridian Mississippi. John Reed a car inspector found the body about 6 15 am and believed the man had been dead three to four hours. Robbery is the suspected motive and a coroner s jury ruled death caused by foul play with robbery as the motive.
B B Mosely 25 of Forest West Carroll parish was struck and run over by a south bound Missouri Pacific train one mile north of Oak Grove La The body was dismembered and found by Wallace Brown a boy playing near his home His brother Louis Mosely found the scene after learning his brother was missing Mosely leaves a wife and a four day old baby.
Former secretary of state Frank Kellogg, in Washington with President Hoover and Secretary Stimson, says the world peace pact will naturally lead to naval reductions. He praises Briand for his role in the pact and notes its acceptance by most nations with hopes it will be universal.

Dr Louis Leroy of Memphis and crew on the Rogie shattered the 90 hour 14 minute Mississippi River speed record set by the Robert E. Lee. The Rogie finished 1 154 miles from New Orleans to St Louis in 7 hours 51 minutes at 6 35 am reaching the dock.

W M Modique from Collinston says a watch and one dollar disappeared at Sixth Street and Layton Avenue. J C Tanner notes 51 cents robbed at Eighth and Ouachita Avenue. All victims allege two robbers. descriptions vary but suspects believed same pair.

Sam Watson, 69, confessed to killing a man at Folsom New Mexico in 1893. He refuses to travel 2,000 miles to face trial after New Mexican authorities declined to finance his return. Watson says he has no money and will not walk back just to be hanged.

The Buchanan Georgia murder trial of Constable Luke Ballenger, charged with shooting Grady Phillips during a car stop, nears jury deliberation. Testimony from Luther Bay and the Woodward brothers described events before the shooting and challenged Ballenger’s role, while defense counsel claimed another shooter may have fired.

In Harrisburg Pennsylvania on July 25 authorities pursued Rev. John Wesley Gable and Mrs. John Miller who vanished Tuesday night in the pastor’s car. Both women expressed willingness to forgive if they return. A note allegedly from Gable promised funds once settled.
In Tavares Florida July 25 immediate trial will be sought for H W Prescott and J C Pike after a Lake County grand jury indicted them for the July 6 hammer slaying of Levi Allen and Mrs Angie Gillis at a Mohawk filling station. Prescott confessed while Pike denied involvement. Both men have been held incommunicado as officials questioned them. Prescott's confession followed a statement from Russ Rogers of Apopka who said the two admitted the killing and asked Rogers to help frame a cover story. Indictments followed first degree murder warrants sworn by Sheriff B A Cassidy.
