Exiled foes of Nazism fall into German hands in 1930s case

Otto Strasser and Herschel Grynszpan reportedly captured by Germany after the fall of France. Grynszpan, who killed Ernst Vom Rath in Paris in 1938, is held for trial for Vom Rath's murder. Strasser, once a foe of Nazism, had his German citizenship stripped in 1934 amid the regime’s crackdown.

Army to Mine New York Harbor in Practice Maneuvers

The U S Army will mine approaches to New York harbor after current maneuvers end. Soldiers at Fort Hancock New Jersey lay dummy mines and sweep them up as maneuvers continue through August. Prisoner Clings to 100 Foot Tank At Federal Penitentiary

Andrew Jackson Wynne, a 20 year old convict, spent 19 hours atop a 100 foot water tower at the federal penitentiary rather than be returned to a Georgia prison camp. Hunger and guards' arguments ended his stunt at about 8:30 this morning as he yielded after striking the tank with a hammer and shouting farewell. He had been awaiting completion of a two year auto theft sentence and faced a four to five year burglary term interrupted by an escape in 1937. He suffered sunburn but no serious injuries.

Prominent Texarkana Woman Found Slain in Home

Mrs. R. J. O Dwyer, a member of a social Texarkana family, was discovered bludgeoned and throat cut in her bedroom. Police said a butcher knife and iron bar were used and a diamond ring, gold wedding band, and gold watch were missing. Suspects were being questioned mid-morning.

Divorcee and man shot dead in parked car in Pittsburgh

In Elliott section of Pittsburgh a 38 year old divorcee Mrs Carrie Kolb and 45 year old lodger J Edgar Ewing were shot to death in a parked automobile. An unknown assailant escaped on foot after firing five shots. A widower living near the Kolb home was detained for questioning hours later. No robbery motive evident.
