Baton Rouge reports Governor Sam H. Jones closed out the legislature actions after clearing his desk of 399 measures, vetoing 85 bills to set a new record. He sent 13 vetoes and allowed 43 to become law without signature, with banks rate regulation among the vetoed items.
A 16 year old farm girl was brutally assaulted and killed near Augusta Arkansas while walking home from a church service with Myrt Flannery 18. The assailant, an unidentified man armed with a club, fled after injuring both victims. The girl died from a fractured skull. Flannery suffered a minor head wound.
