Ouachita Parish School Board meets Tuesday at 7 PM to discuss principals pay. Rumors have circulated that many principals would be transferred or reassigned as part of the agenda.
In London U S Undersecretary John N Irwin told 2000 American Bar Association delegates that Nixon s moves to improve relations with Communist China are not aimed at Moscow He compared U S China overtures with Eastern Europe and urged restraint toward Soviet allies while citing progress on arms talks and biological weapons bans.
Northeast Louisiana University conducts the second phase of an Aero space Education Workshop at Free man Flying Service through July 30 for high school aerospace educators. Workshop director Robert Wicker notes a more aeronautical focus for a private pilot course and briefing on flight theory instruments and navigation. Fourteen class members tour Barksdale Field in Bossier City today.
Funeral services for Floyd Arnold Thomason 15 son of Lt. Wilton Thomason and Mrs. Thomason of Rayville were set for 4 p.m. at Rayville Methodist Church with Revs Henry Bowden and Elton A McKnight officiating. Burial followed at Rayville Masonic Cemetery under Rayville Funeral Service direction. The youth died Sunday in a two car collision injuring at least two others and the incident remained under investigation. Survivors include brother Thomas T Thomason and sister Pamela Kay Thomason, both of Rayville. Pallbearers were Mike Byrd Kerry Shoemaker Don Pilgreen Rickey Hendrix Doug Byvrd and Bill Dampier.

The Louisiana Wing Civil Air Patrol begins its annual summer encampment at England AFB near Alexandria. Cadets receive instruction on Air Force history organization and courtesies as local leaders head activities including Deputy Commander Dale F. Bernell and First Sergeant Bobby J. Wilkes among attendees from West Monroe and nearby areas.
A weekend fire sparked by lightning struck Baker- Lyman Nautical Instruments Co. in New Orleans causing about 100000 dollars in damage. Firemen waited 25 minutes as water pressure failed after a lightning bolt knocked out the water department’s electrical panel. A fireboat pumped river water to aid hoses. the top two floors were gutted and the second floor suffered water and smoke damage.
Dr. Charles M. Lobrano 58 died after a heart attack. funeral services held in Baton Rouge at 9 30 a m with graveside rites in Centerville Mississippi. Survivors include widow Dorothy and three sons plus siblings and many relatives. Robert C. Simmons 33 died in St. Louis after brief illness. Funeral in Columbia Missouri at St Paul Baptist Church with interment in St Paul Cemetery. He leaves mother Ethel Wiley stepfather Fred Wiley two sisters a son and a nephew.
Funeral services for Dixie C Whitey Boulware 75 of 619 Wood St Monroe will be at 5 pm Tuesday in Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe with Rev Acie Ford officiating. Burial in Riverview Cemetery. He died Sunday at the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria. He was a World War I veteran. Survivors include two half brothers N P Tidwell of Waurika Okla and Bruce Tidwell of Yuma Ark.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Brewton Deloach 57 of Alexandria formerly West Monroe were held at Ridge Avenue Baptist Church West Monroe with Rev. Raymond M Howe and Rev. A T Mitchell officiating. Burial followed at Hasley Cemetery under Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe. She died Saturday at Rapides General Hospital after a lengthy illness. She had served as church secretary and pianist and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband E F Deloach Sr of Alexandria a son F F Deloach Jr of Dallas her mother Mrs J A Brewton of West Monroe a sister Mrs L M Williams of Beaumont and three grandchildren Pallbearers were C B Fulton Cobb Sawyer Doyle Hudson Fred Hayton Jack Hollingsworth and Harvey Taylor.
Funeral services for 72 year old Mrs. Mary Carpenter of Bethlehem Baptist Community were held at 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Willis Russell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She died Saturday at Winnfield General Hospital after a long illness. She was a native of Winn Parish and survived by one son William H. Carpenter of Winnfield, three daughters Mary Lou Carpenter Mrs S B Carter and Mrs Raymond Dubois all of Winnfield, two brothers J T Collins Tioga and George Collins Olla, one sister Mrs Jessie Milstead Montgomery, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. -->
Shelvie Lewis 56 of Oakland California died Thursday at his residence. The funeral was held at County Line Baptist Church in Lincoln Parish at 2 30 p m with Rev EL J Jones officiating. Interment followed at Carolina Cemetery under Millers Funeral Home direction. Survived by seven daughters including Mrs Cozet Gooden Monroe Mrs Shirley B Ray and others of Houston Texas and Oakland California and two sons C D.
Funeral services for W. R. Pete Carroll 88 of Lafayette were to be held at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home Farmerville at 3 p.m. Burial planned at Bernice City Cemetery. Carroll died Friday at home after a long illness. Survived by two brothers L. D. Carroll Farmerville and Gus Carroll Baton Rouge a sister Miss Sadie Carroll Lafayette and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe for Earl M Turner 63 of 301 Hamilton St with Rev Bradley Trimble officiating. Burial followed at Hasley Cemetery. Turner died Saturday at his West Monroe home after a heart attack. A World War II veteran, he worked 25 years for Great American Life Insurance Co. He is survived by his wife Gwendolyn Wood Turner three daughters a son a brother four sisters and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rex Furlow Edward Koscrog Bill Wade Jack Hover Jeff Caldwell and Don Woods.
Mohammed Abu Abed, 19, recounts heavy Jordanian artillery fire in Ajlan five days earlier. He says 12 of 19 in his unit were killed, the rest fled to Israel as Jordan’s army hunted Palestinian fighters linked to Al Fatah and Al-Saiqa. He fled across the Jordan with 72 guerrillas as King Hussein’s forces closed in.
Seattle researchers at the University of Washington and Battelle Northwest Lab report a new metal named void metal composite or VMC for attaching artificial devices to bone. After 18 months of work they secured a 266000 grant to develop a second generation VMC alloy and test it in animals and potential joint repair.
