Congressman Otto E. Passman announced he will not seek either gubernatorial post in 1952 Louisiana elections nor actively back a candidate. He hinted at a governor bid in 1956 and said he will focus on his duties in Congress, returning to Washington promptly.
Washington July 19 AP House members, bitterly divided along party lines, near the end of the fight over wage price rent and other economic controls. A key amendment banned all price controls not allowing a reasonable profit prompting OPS review of ceiling prices. Price Stabilizer Di Salle called the move damaging to price controls while Wolcott urged profits to spur production and beat inflation. Party leaders see the vote as a test of fundamental party differences for 1952.
Federal agents planned to view a patch near Baldwin in south Louisiana described as worth a million dollars and to question a Negro tenant farmer who cultivated the crop. A man linked to child molestation on the north side of Monroe was arrested by Monroe police late Wednesday. District Attorney Fred Fudickar Jr urged parents to contact his office for positive identification. He noted 12 men were arrested for sex offenses this year, nine prosecuted, seven found guilty, two acquitted.
Los Angeles July 19. Sam Joenig aged 47 faces burglary and grand theft charges. Authorities allege he used oversized pants patched with fur contact to divert thefts from downtown shops. Exhibit A was the patched seat with fur traces as police testified.

The foreman W F Clark found the body as he followed a freight train toward New Orleans.
The United States moves toward using Spanish air and naval bases for western defense despite British and French opposition. Franco and Admiral Sherman met four hours as talks accelerate with a special mission planned to detail arrangements.
President Truman stated the United States has adjusted its stance toward Franco Spain for military reasons. He noted Secretary Acheson’s statement and said Madrid discussions led by Admiral Sherman are preliminary, seeking Franco Spain’s role in a common defense.
Lonnie C. Wallace a 32 year old West Monroe native and World War II navy veteran was shot on the porch of his second story flat. His widow Mrs Sidney Pauline Wallace is charged with murder in connection with the death. She claimed she shot to scare him after he returned late from a saloon. In Indianapolis on July 19 a well dressed stranger paid 14 year old Dan Watson a $100 tip for a shoe shine and gave $150 more to Willie Sanders 11 Chester Winters 12 and Jimmie Jones 11 to split. The man vanished into the downtown crowd as police recovered the bills and searched for him.

State police in Mandeville describe a young woman, about 23 with light brown hair, 5 feet 6 inches, 120 pounds, found dead near the Southeast Louisiana Hospital grounds after being struck on U S Highway 190. President Truman called Senator McCarthy's claim that Secretary Marshall is part of a great conspiracy to deliver the United States to communism the silliest thing he had heard. He said such irresponsible accusations do not help the country and avoided naming McCarthy.
Philadelphia July 19 The wife of William R Minter a navy man who left a Wave at the altar in Medford Massachusetts arrived to help untangle the romance. Mrs Willie Bea Minter said she hopes to stay in Philadelphia until his European post assignment in a few weeks. Minter spoke of his troubles and his wish to unite Pearl Knowles the Wave at Philadelphia naval hospital. Knowles and Minter both face uncertain futures in the navy and Minter admitted he erred and may seek punishment while hoping the public will not interfere. He also noted ongoing support for his wife and two children and payments for a daughter from a prior marriage.
