Ed Thorp Dies After Arm Wound In Jail
Ed ward Wilson Thorp former clerk of the state highway Fifth Maintenance district died in a Calcasieu parish jail cell after a self inflicted arm wound. Officials say his death was a fourth by his own action in less than two months. A penciled note found in the cell was not revealed to the widow. The coroner ruled the wound caused a large blood vessel severance as Thorp, a mentally troubled man, was jailed on recommendations from a lunacy commission. He had been held since Wednesday afternoon following a federal grand jury probe witness testimony in Monroe.
