Viet Nam forces report a seven to eight minute Viet Cong mortar and machine gun attack on Can Tho Airport wounding 14 U.S. Army Special Forces troops. Ten wounded were sent to Nhatrang hospital. three Vietnamese were also hurt. Vietnamese forces pursued attackers.
Washington AP amid signals Congress will curb a nationwide rail stoppage a presidential panel drafts its report on the four year dispute for carriers and unions before final submission to the White House. The report will guide legislation Kennedy will seek to block the strike with government action.

NAACP lawyers seek Jackson public school integration this September, challenging Judge Sidney Mize of Gulfport who dismissed the suit. The request follows recent circuit rulings ordering desegregation in Birmingham and Mobile. The case marks the first below college level suit from Mississippi to reach the court.
Gov. Ross Barnett of Mississippi told about 3,000 supporters in Atlanta that a united South could deny an electoral majority to liberal candidates in the next presidential election. He urged unpledged electors and warned that withholding votes by Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, Louisiana, Arkansas, and South Carolina could throw the race to a conservative in the House, arguing for states rights and constitutional government.
