Joliet police sought suspects after an Ottawa Street Methodist Church bombing caused 5 000 to 6 090 dollars in damage. The Rev. E Rompel, active against bootleggers, is cited by authorities as possibly connected to the attack.
E. A. Mc Bryde, a detective agency employee, was found guilty of second degree murder in the death of R. J. Kinney, a Jail Special agent. Kinney was shot on Main Street near Madison in downtown Mempus on June 14, with the jury sentencing Mc Bryde to more than 12 years in prison.
Washington July 11 The Federal Council of Churches administrative committee adopts a resolution denouncing the national disregard for the prohibition law by a small number of officials. It calls on all public officials including military officers to uphold strict observance of alcoholic beverage regulations.
New York July 11 Governor Bryan is not a formal church member but is described as a Baptist by association through family ties and upbringing. He attends First Baptist Church of Lincoln Nebraska with Mrs Bryan and their children, though he has never officially joined.
A draft team owned by Chas Riddock in Calgary Alberta set a world record with a 2690 pound pull on a dynamometer. The team maintained the pull for 27 1 2 feet simulating lifting 23760 pounds of granite paving. Two other teams surpassed previous US records with pulls of 2505 pounds for 271 2 feet.

In Birmingham authorities report a small band of masked men seized Doc Brown from Lipscomb jail after taking keys from the night warden. They unlocked his cell and fled in a waiting car. Brown, held on a minor charge, has not been heard from.
Gus Stewart a black man is wanted for the murder of a black woman on Enola plantation. Bloodhounds traced him to Paincourtville where he was believed to have boarded a bus.
Report from Montevideo based on wireless advices says Brazilian rebels push toward Parana with control of Sao Paulo at risk of spreading to Brazil. They expect Parana troops to join and other forces may link up during the march toward the state's interior.
A despatch from Consul Heeberle in Sao Paulo states the governor of Sao Paulo and other state officials have left the capital, now fully controlled by revolutionists, in a developing political crisis.
At the Olympic Stadium in Colombes on July 11, Eric Liddell of Great Britain won the 400 meters as the sole final. The United States led with 183.5 points, Finland 103, and Great Britain 60.5. The day featured heats in the 3,000 meters with Finland and the US winning. Jose Ray, the American star, was hindered by a mishap. The US increased its lead to 80.5 points.
In Harrisburg on July 11 officials said petitions with 5611 names must be filed by September 5 to place Senator Robert M. La Follette on the presidential ballot in November. The filing requires a name no longer than three words excluding party labels.
J. W. Meier a brakeman for the Texas and Pacific Railroad lost his right leg and left foot when struck by a freight train in the local yards yesterday. He stood on one track awaiting a passing train on an adjacent track when the accident occurred.
A new long distance radio link set between a ship at sea and a shore station near San Francisco was announced by the federal telegraph. The Venutra, an ocean liner, shared messages with the beach station from 6,285 miles southwest of San Francisco yesterday.
Walter Muir of New York was hanged at Valley Field Quebec for the murder of Henri Laviolette in September. The sentence followed efforts by the Countess of Richelieu and others to obtain a new trial. Muir claimed he only meant to scare Laviolette during a barroom quarrel. He fired two bullets into the floor, one hitting Laviolette in the breast. Laviolette had earlier struck Muir's crony, a crippled man named Joseph Plant, during a dog debate.

A mass meeting calls for police accountability while authorities drag the Seine tenement room once used for the slayings and continue searches for more victims.
Knoxville July 11 Richard Martin 17 was sentenced to two years in the federal penitentiary at Atlanta for stealing 25 cents from a general store and post office in Campbell county.
San Francisco police arrested Charles and his wife yesterday in a case where they defrauded single men by sending pictures of movie actresses and posing as willing brides. Federal officers found more than 65 letters and requests for money to cover transportation and other expenses.
Talladega Alabama July 11 Gordon Fincher was executed by hanging in the Talladega county jail yard after conviction for the 1923 murder of Maybelle McCullough 16 near Lincoln. He denied guilt and sang a hymn in his final hours as his wife voiced her belief in his innocence.
Crowley Louisiana reports two youths drowned during a Sunday school picnic on the Calcasien river. Roland Buck, 18, of Jennings and Kenneth Carroll, 18, of Welsh were pulled under by a whirlpool while trying to rescue each other. bodies recovered later that day.
New York July 11 The Workers Party nominated William Z Foster for president and Benjamin Gitlow for vice president. The party endorsed by the former labor party will not support La Follette. Ruthenberg said the platform favors small industries and well off farmers, not the workers. Foster and Gitlow are longtime communistic activists.
W H Anderson former state superintendent of the anti saloon league is jailed in Sing Sing for forgery. He will appeal to the court of appeals after the appellate division of the supreme court reportedly upheld the conviction. The argument on the appeal will be heard in the fall. Anderson is serving one to two years and becomes eligible for release December 24.

Bragg N C July 11 two soldiers were instantly killed and three others injured when cars near a power line jumped to a galvanized iron pipe used in construction works. The deceased are Corporal Ernest Brylindsen 25 Oakland California and Private Herbert N Ward 20 Charlotte.
