Mrs Irene Reid advertising director of the Monroe News Star and Morning World spoke at the Texas Newspapers Advertising Managers Association meeting at Hotel Texas in Fort Worth She reviewed the National Advertising Executives Association event in New York last month The meeting began at 930 am Sunday with Sam Bloom presiding Reid noted 28 years with News Star and 17 with Morning World heading the only all woman ad staff in the country She began in the business as a printer s devil and later ran a job press and linotype before moving to advertising

Less Paperwork for Veterans Aids Subistence Payments

Veterans Affairs officials announce a simplified form for colleges and schools next fall to qualify veterans for subsistence payments under the servicemen readjustment act. Only one form is needed upon a veteran's arrival to resume education, replacing many questions about course costs and books. The single form, soon available from the New Orleans regional office, aims to speed subsistence payments with prompt school handling.

Emmanuel Church Revival Opens Second Week

The Emmanuel Baptist Church revival continues into its second week with large crowds at each meeting led by evangelist Rev. Smothers. He preached that Christianity’s chief attraction is the cross and warned against the unpardonable sin defined as speaking against the Holy Spirit. Several new members joined as meetings run daily at 9:30 am and 8 pm.

Frank Boyd Parkhurst 83 died at his Winnsboro home on Sunday with funeral services at his residence Monday at 3 p.m. Rev. O L Tucker Rev. Dana Terry and Rev. Clayton Trapp officiated. Burial was in the new Winnsboro Cemetery under Mulhearn Funeral Home care. Winnsboro 10 to Host Big Farm Show

Farmers merchants and the public plan to attend the Franklin parish farm and home labor saving show at Winnsboro High School gym on Friday July 19 and Saturday July 20. Milk price meeting eyed to offset subsidy loss

A meeting of all Twin Cities whole milk distributors and Monroe West Monroe dairies is set for Tuesday in the Cameo room of Hotel Virginia at 8 PM to discuss price shifts after the subsidy to producers was ended July 1. T. H. Scott says retail milk prices will likely rise to offset losses.

Knife Wielder Sought After Monroe Attack

Mrs Edna Connelly, wounded by a hitchhiker near Raleigh last Wednesday, was moved home to 1207 St John Dr. Her assailant, described as a young man in part of an army uniform, remained at large as Sheriff Hester and FBI searched over the weekend. A paratrooper picked up in Mississippi was brought to Monroe and examined, but cleared and released.
