Two million men await the zero hour of invasion and are ready to meet any German landings. Civilians and volunteers throughout coastal defense zones are being organized to reinforce regular troops, with volunteers helping to build the people’s moat and train for fighting a multi point assault.
About 15 Monroe district gas well operators attended a Monday morning hearing on gas well facilities atop a Virginia hotel roof. Major B A Hartley, state conservation commissioner, led discussion on acidization of Monroe wells and casing problems. Testimony comparing acidized versus unacidized wells was given by Frea H Ryan of Nemours and Ted Johnson of Union Production Company.
Aides say Democratic leaders will ask the party to endorse a plank allowing government price fixing for farm commodities if economic trends disrupt crop programs. A break in at the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company plant in Monroe yielded about $275 to $279 stolen after someone blew a safe. Police reported the theft occurred Sunday night and described the access as through an entrance damaged during the break in.
