Berlin reports Voelkischer Beobachter leans into a harsh rebuke of Robert W. Bingham the US ambassador to London for his July speech on despots and dictatorships. The piece calls the remarks arrogant and ignorant and mocks Columbia University's Nicholas Murray Butler as a pompous declaimer.
In Gulfport Mississippi July 17 postal employees in their annual Louisiana Mississippi convention held a banquet. Leo E George president of the National Federation of Postal Clerks praised reforms like eight hour day sick leave and retirement annuity. Congressman Martin L Sweeney urged building for national future welfare. Carl Marshall served as toastmaster.
A dispatch from Mexico City says 18 workers were killed in a boiler explosion at a hacienda in Queretaro State. The incident was reported by La Prensa.
In Coushatta Louisiana a 17 year old May Elvin Allen was killed by Jessie Pepper who is charged with the shooting. The motive cited is gossip that May Elvin had a baby. The coroner jury ruled Elvin died from gunshot wounds at Pepper's hands.
In Cleveland Republic Steel sits under guard as Lee Pressman accuses brutal terrorism amid back to work protests. About 3,087 of 5,000 workers returned at Corrigan McKinney, Up son Nut and Bolt, and Truscon works. 1,000 troops kept order. Republic announces further reopening tomorrow.
