Bleachers Collapse Hurts 50 at Waukegan July 4 Pageant
A Independence Day celebration at Weiss athletic field in Waukegan Township High School ended in disaster when wooden bleachers collapsed during the national anthem. More than 50 spectators were bruised or injured as about 9 000 to 20 000 people fell to the ground, with four hospitalized for broken bones. Police firemen and guards helped avert a panic as Red Cross volunteers aided the injured.
