Street car operation in New Orleans sparked four days of rioting as workers and supporters clashed with police. A calm attempt to run three cars ended with gunfire injuring two strikers, including a man shot through the head, and widespread vandalism. Police struggled to control crowds near the Canal Street barn as cars were driven or halted by bricks and mobs.
The Associated Press notes a battered fuselage from the new refueling ship following a night of storms. Mitchell and Newcomb guarded below as bags battered the craft during transit, raising concern about continuing midair refueling in rough air.

In Leghorn Italy Marchioness Stroxzi Malaspina shot and killed her eight year old son Alarico and two and a half year old daughter Rosanna during a late afternoon promenade yesterday and then died by suicide.
