Baton Rouge lawmakers approve a bill restoring city power to define gambling and enforce anti gambling ordinances. The measure would extend to municipalities under 100 000 and would set penalties for gambling acts. The House sent the bill to the Senate along with two other LMA backed proposals.

A B 29 from the Louisiana based 6th Bombardment Wing crashed near Cheyenne Oklahoma around midnight. All 11 crewmen bailed out and walked to nearby farmhouses as the aircraft burned and skidded 300 yards. Names withheld pending final accounting.

Governor Thomas E Dewey of New York predicts no dark horse will win the Republican nomination at Chicago. He says Dwight D Eisenhower is the likely nominee, with Taft a strong fallback. Dewey contends about 100 votes will be outstanding on the first ballot, forcing clear leaders and limiting surprise candidates.
The Republican National Committee barred TV cameras as it debated contested Florida GOP delegations amid the Taft Eisenhower fight for the presidential nomination. The 106 members moved to a different room at the Conrad Hilton Hotel, with cameras barred until a decision is made. The Florida contest, featuring a regular Spades Alexander delegation and a grass roots Florida estate flag group, highlighted a key early battle over 72 delegate seats in a close convention race.
The Ouachita Parish Police Jury approved matching state funds to finish six road projects. A $30,000 local appropriation will supplement $20,000 from the state and about $50,000 total cost, with $102,000 previously spent last year on base asphalt. Roads include Prairie road, Good Hope and 4 Oaks road, Berg Jones road, Stubbs-Vinson road, State route 1298, Avant and Caples road, and Cypress Scheel road.
