In New Orleans a drowning occurred and two men were seriously injured from diving in shallow water. Roland Stephen Falgoust and his spouse were swept away while swimming with family at Chef Menteur Bayou Faudage. Clarence Steinlage, 24, fractured his neck diving from a boat into Lake Pontchartrain. A. P. Stoddard, a linotype operator, was hurt in a small Covington creek with a fractured neck.

Detroit reports Jean Miller alias Lillian Winles told prosecutor McCrea that Howard Carter Dickinson was shot during a robbery attempt by William Lee Ferris. Ferris, 26, known as a hotel habitué and party fixer, sat through long questioning amid competing accounts from Ferris and three accompanying girls.
A head on collision near Jonesville Texas killed William Jernigan of Elysian Fields and an unidentified Shreveport woman. Three others injured include James Tucker of Waskom Tom Black Hill of DeBerry and an unidentified white man. The unidentified driver refused to disclose names. the dead and injured were taken to Waskom for first aid then Marshall hospital.
Baton Rouge July 1 Gov O K Allen said he was checking Lake Charles conditions after being asked to authorize militia to preserve order following a longshoremen disturbance. He added he had not yet called out militia at the Calcasieu parish port, as Sheriff Henry Reid and officials coordinated response.
In Alexandria Louisiana on Saturday night W D Freeman 38 or 39 was shot and killed in City Park after a quarrel with fellow casket plant employee John Pope 40 Pope was taken into custody and Freeman left a widow and one child surviving the incident police said both men worked at a local casket manufacturing plant authorities noted the motive cited was dispute over working hours
