A hospital ship was sunk by a submarine on June 27, resulting in 258 deaths or missing personnel. The attack occurred during wartime operations and involved a U boat targeting a medical vessel at sea. International reactions demand investigation and safety reassessment for hospital ships.
Allied reports say French forces improved positions near Passey en Valois on the Marne front and took a German strong point southwest of Soissons after repulsing a German counterattack. Meanwhile a British hospital ship Llandovery Castle was sunk by a submarine off Fasinet, with 258 aboard including 80 Canadian medics and 14 nurses, one lifeboat with 24 survivors landed so far.

Tim Wyatt, a Black man, died at St Francis sanitarium from a shotgun wound received Saturday near the hardwood mill. A woman named Cataline Brown, also Black, was jailed but no formal charge had been filed. Officers quoted her saying the man refused to work and left without food or shoes before the shooting.
Rev C M Deere arrested in Caldwell parish for alleged disloyal remarks. brought before U S Commissioner O Kelly and committed to Shreveport jail in default of $1000 bond. Also held on espionage act charges are Nasir Honrado O B Dumant and A Bender. John Neidhardt arrested for disloyal utterances after registering as an alien German in Wichita Falls Texas. Presidential warrant for internment expected.
