The firings include Wilmer Shaw for entering the sheriff race and Lewis Darcy Charles Kratzer and Dennis Mestayer in subsequent weeks.
The FCC ordered an investigation into Western Union facilities for possible illegal gambling use and postponed a May 1 deadline for new regulations on racing news. A public hearing set for March 3 will examine current wire usage for violations and whether proposed rules curb gambling and keep wires for legitimate business.

In the January primary Kennon led in the fourth fifth and sixth congressional districts while Spaht topped the first and eighth. Dudley LeBlanc won the third and seventh districts and Hale Boggs led the second. All eliminated candidates backed Kennon and he pledged to fire Earl K Long deadheads as he campaigned in Ville Platte.
A panther track imprint from Franklin Parish drew alarm in Winnsboro after being shown at the News-Star-World office. Four tracks pointed toward Monroe and residents in the area carry rifles when entering woods following news of the animal.
