In Wenatchee Washington volunteers from the Junior Chamber of Commerce worked with Chelan County sheriff to run a two man undercover operation named Bandits. Over a 10 month period they made about 70 buys and helped seize drugs worth about 25000 in a raid that arrested seven people.
Apollo 14 astronauts Alan Shepard Edgar Mitchell and Stuart Roosa run simulated landings at Cape Kennedy as they test a new descent maneuver toward Fra Mauro as Saturn V counts down to a Sunday launch. The plan calls for Kitty Hawk to dip near 12 miles altitude before Antares descends to a precise touchdown in a rugged cratered valley.
Secretary of State William P. Rogers told Congress the administration would permit exchange of unclassified scientific and technical information with scientists and institutions of any country noting China as a general policy. He said the move aims to benefit the United States and others through cooperation.

The Army proposes an experimental TRICAP division of about 12 000 troops at Fort Hood to counter Soviet armor in Europe by blending armor, air mobile infantry, and air cavalry brigades. The plan envisions advanced tanks and Tow missiles, with helicopter infantry, amid budget and drawdown pressures.
Washington based National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements released a 10 year study supporting current radiation protection criteria. The group urged lower exposure limits for pregnant women while concluding no need for sweeping tightening of standards. Critics from Lawrence Radiation Laboratory warned of cancer risk unless rules are strengthened tenfold. Dr Lauriston S Taylor defended current guidelines in a separate statement.

The Intelsat 4 satellite, the world’s largest, was launched from Cape Kennedy by an Atlas-Centaur rocket and reached a preliminary orbit of 165 to 22,700 miles. A ground station in Andover, Maine, will fire its onboard motor to place the 3,094-pound payload into a stationary orbit 22,300 miles above the equator, acting as a space relay for North and South America, Europe, and Africa.
