In Batavia on January 26 a moving picture theatre fire on a plantation residence in Surabaya caused a panic that left fifty eight children sixteen women and one man dead as they were trampled or suffocated.
Meridian Miss Jan 26 Heidelberg Bank at Heidelberg Mississippi failed to open this morning and announced it will be liquidated. The bank had a $10 000 capital with J E B Dunn serving as president also of Mathison and Weir banks. Cashier Alkins said Dunn could not be found.
Washington report recalls a 1911 inspection of the Onaciqua Guards in old armory with poor quarters. A December 1912 inspection of new quarters shows a notable improvement with a fair rating, as Captain Gayle notes in a recent notice.

In Natchitoches Louisiana on January 26 a thirteen year old son shot and killed his father John C Clark of Hill Clark planting firm after the father forced the wife from the house at gunpoint and attacked the couple’s fifteen year old daughter The boy fired a shotgun in defense of his sister causing instantaneous death.

At about 2 am Sunday in a Powers alley house two men, Tom Melton and Sam Porter, were shot. Melton, wounded and under arrest, and Porter, in critical condition, have conflicting accounts of who fired first.
