Ward leader is called by jury in New Orleans
New Orleans January 25. With charges of fraud in the November 8 general election before them, the Orleans parish grand jury was asked to open four ballot boxes and issue a subpoena for William P. Dillon, long associated ward leader and chairman of the parish jury commission. Four other ballot boxes were presented January 20 but no report has been made. Porterie, state attorney general, secured orders for box delivery from criminal district court after halting an earlier probe by the district attorney. Dillon spoke Friday before precinct captains of Long's organization in the fourteenth ward, and the honest election league along with state and city bar associations urged action if fraud is found.

In Bastrop Louisiana a $50 reward was posted for information leading to the arrest of Sandy Shelton, the alleged shooter of a Dermott Arkansas officer last October. Chief Higginbotham and a vigilant group hunted the suspect with bloodhounds near Bastrop as rain hampered the search. The chase followed a tip and a gunfight at a house in the local Negro section, where Higginbotham was wounded in the right hand.

Slaying Attempt Probed In Capone Relative Case

Tornado injures Maurepas family including professor and daughter
Professor R J Williams aged 35 and his nine year old daughter Geraldine, with Mrs Williams, were seriously hurt when a tornado swept through southeastern Livingston parish. Williams described the destruction from a hospital cot as his home in Maurepas was upturned and debris piled on top of them. Geraldine saw the funnel and said she saw it coming while the four year old Calvin was found unharmed on a tree limb. Mrs Williams was reported in critical condition with deep head and body wounds.
